Pakistan won by 93 runs
Pakistan halted world champions South Africa's winning streak by sealing a 93-run margin victory in an entertaining and hard-fought opening Test in the city of Lahore.
The Proteas, who had a 10-Test winning streak in the longest format culminated in a win against Australia in the WTC final in June, were bowled out for 183 chasing 277.
Starting the day on 51-2, they saw the dismissal of first-innings centurion De Zorzi lbw to pace bowler Afridi to the third delivery of the day to shift the tightly balanced chase in the home team's favor.
Left-arm spinner Noman Ali, who took 10 wickets for 191 runs in the match, removed Tristan Stubbs for two and bowled Dewald Brevis, who offered some resistance with a run-a-ball 54.
Off-spinner Sajid also capitalized on sharp turn to end opener Rickelton's stay - he lasted 145 balls for 45 - and Shaheen returned in the post-lunch session to dismiss the tail with a impressive exhibition of reverse swing.
He had Verreynne lbw for 19 and bowled Subrayen and Rabada to secure the victory.
It was each team's opening game of the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle and moves Pakistan directly into the number two spot after leaders the Australian team.
The win was founded on key performances of 93 by opener Imam-ul-Haq and, crucially, all-rounder Agha which boosted them to three hundred and seventy-eight.
After that slow bowlers Noman and Sajid Khan took advantage of helpful home pitches, as they had in their series victory over the English team last year, to maintain their lead.
The second and final Test begins on October 20.
