PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the prestigious trophy on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

Yet, Marseille struck twice late to take a surprise lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital equaliser in the dying seconds to send the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.
