Local Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Police say they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then found multiple other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report early analysis suggest the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; investigators are presently not informed of any harm in connection with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking representative said the incident left him without words and required to be solved quickly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in 2020.
